Getting upset.

As of late, MSU has taken the baton of being the biggest choke-meisters in college football. This was a fact last year in the Monsoon bowl versus ND and all of us wearing green will accept that.

But, if you look at the facts, those hard-fighting Spartans have historically won some of the biggest upsets in college football history, even recent history. Here's a list I'm starting. PLEASE post some other big wins if you know them :

2005 - Beat then ranked #10 Notre Dame
2004 - Beat then ranked #4 Wisconsin
1998 - Beat then ranked #1 Ohio State
1995 - Beat then ranked #7 Michigan
1990 - Beat then ranked #1 Michigan
1974 - Beat then ranked #1 Ohio State

Mike Hurt =
1078 Yards in 200 Attempts = 5.4 Yards per carry

Javon Ringer =
932 Yards in 132 Rush Attempts = 7.1 Yards per carry

Ringer has 76 less carries and Hurt has only 146 more yards

76 less carries x 7.1 Average = Ringer would have 539.6 more yards if he had the same amount of carries



Mike Hurt = 12 TDs

Jehuu Caulcrick = 13 TDs



In the 10 minutes of UM football I've watched this season, Hurt has thrown his helmet down on the field wimpering twice.


Hurt will never win the Heisman.

On the Subject of Drew Sharp

Hello Spartan fans. I live out west now, have for twelve years, but I check in with my brothers in the mittened state every so often via Freep. What I notice again and again is this writer's (if you can call him that) negativity which puts me on the defensive. Did this guy watch the game yeaterday? What I saw was a tough defensive battle and MSU played their hearts out. The defense kicked some serious booty - big plays and big hits. Be tempered in your joy Spartan fans. We have six days until some serious come-uppance will be served to Irish folks in SB next Saturday in light of last year's debacle. In a game in which MSU would normally have lost, we won yesterday. Let's hope we can all look back on this POSITIVELY as a keystone victory for the next phase of Spartan Football. Newspapers are suffering badly right now, if you don't like this joker's treatment of your team, cancel your subscription and tell all your Green clad bretheren. Peace.

MSU Consistency in Football AND Basketball

Can anyone name another team that is as consistently at the top in NCAA Football AND basketball?

When was the last time Duke's football team beat ND? Do they even HAVE a football team? Does North Carolina put the fear of God into opponents offensive backfield? I think not.

When you're watching the games this season, remember, state went to the Final Four in BBall less that 6 months ago.

Here we go again!

How many people saw that ND game last weekend? Thanks to NBC for giving State worldwide exposure. Stanton looked like the Heisman candidate he is and the Defense (except for the secondary) looked kick a$$. Gotta give Quinn some props, but after all the ND hyperbole leading up to the game, they got exactly what they deserved. Undefeated and happy.

This is so damn sweet.

Everybody happy today? We just did what i thought we could do - put the smack-down on Duke. I sent the following in an email to all the starters on MSU the night before the Duke game :

Hey hey, thank you Vermont. I've always loved Phish, but didn't know they could shoot. This sets up a showdown between the laddies in Green that should be a fun one. I hope we play the way we can and take no prisoners in our quest for Duke. Did anybody else pick MSU to win their Tourney Pick 'em?

Rankings & Respect

Let's talk about rankings. Anybody remember where Dickie V had State ranked pre-season? #5.

Now Illinois is obvioiusly #1, but be sure to watch the Iowa game they have upcoming. I'm telling you right now, MSU is salivating at the idea of sticking it to the Illini in Chicago at the BigTen Tourney. Let's just hope the stars align and we at least get a shot at them.

Some interesting facts about this week so far :

1) MSU is ranked #10 & #11 in the polls. They won both games this week, by 19 over Minnesota and by 11 over Purdue

2) #2 Kansas LOST 2 games, to unranked Texas Tech (Thanks Bobby!) and unranked Iowa State

3) #3 Kentuky LOST to unranked S. Carolina

4) #5 Wake Forest lost to Duke

5) #7 Duke LOST 2 games, to #22 Maryland and unranked Virginia Tech

6) #9 Syracuse LOST 2 games, to #17 Pitt and #6 Boston College
